Safeguarding Critical Lifelines: ABGI Highlights WATERGRID at DANUBIUS-RO 2026 — Bucharest, 7–8 July

On 7–8 July 2026, the DANUBIUS-RO 2026 conference at the UNSTPB Central Library in Bucharest brought together researchers and practitioners around innovations in environmental sustainability, climate adaptation, and digital monitoring frameworks. ABGI Romania was proud to see its work represented, with a spotlight on the Horizon Europe WATERGRID initiative.

WATERGRIDNature-Based Smart Water Grids for Integrated Water and Drought Management — develops an innovative approach that combines Nature-Based Solutions with digital technologies to improve water management and strengthen resilience to drought. In a conference dedicated to climate adaptation and the protection of critical environmental systems, WATERGRID’s mission sat right at the heart of the discussion: safeguarding the water lifelines that cities, agriculture, and ecosystems depend on, through smart, distributed, and digitally monitored infrastructure.

As climate pressures on Europe’s water systems intensify, the integration of nature-based approaches with real-time digital monitoring becomes not a luxury but a necessity. WATERGRID is building exactly that bridge — and DANUBIUS-RO 2026 was an ideal forum to share its vision with the wider environmental research community.
